Workshop 1: Developing local and national policies – Germany

The workshop on local experiences in the German context will focus on following topics:
Overview over the organization and the situation of muslim life in Germany
1. Some characteristics of christian-muslim dialogue in Germany
2. Introduction in one of the major subjects of discussion: the building of mosques
3. Exemplary projects on local and national level – how can we react?
Methods: presentation, discussion, exchange
Workshop 2: Muslim populations – Bosnia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Albania

Information on Muslim populations in the Balkans and on Arabic influence during and since the last wars.
An account of personal encounters with individual Muslims in Bosnia, Kosovo and Macedonia
Workshop 3: Specific challenges to national and local policies – Belgium

Short description of the context: demographical situation, result of an historical evolution, innerislamic diversity
Muslim integration in Belgium:
- Some issues: veil, discrimination, ‘ghetto’ (school, districts), Palestine and the poltical situation there, how to live together?
- Some answers: An official structure: “Exécutif des Musulmans de Belgique” (management of the temporal aspects of worship), civil rights (municipal vote for foreigners…), Antidiscrimination acts, Muslims going into politics, trade unions, cultural activities, ‘intercultural’ and ‘interconvictional’ dialogue.
Workshop 4: Islamic Communities and regional/local policies at the Valencian Community – Spain

Steering committee with guest and without the photographer :)
This weekend, the Eurojess steering committee meets in Brussels, in order to plan our next meeting in 2009. We will welcome a guest from the “Deux Rives” group in order to get a broad input on the meetings topic.
Evening was celebration time: excellent compagny and gorgeous food!!!

The morning started with the workshop-groups summing up their ideas.

The afternoon was consecrated to Eurojess business, elections and the brainstorming on the next meeting (download the minutes: EuroJess business).
We have a new steering committee:
Andreas Gösele (president), Pierre Martinot-Lagarde, Frank Turner, Pep Mària, David Nazar.
After the second part of the workshops, we had a brainstorming session on “EuroJess and the Social Centers – looking at the future together”.

After the evening Eucharist, the Slovak scholastics treated us to two marvellous presentations on Slovakia and on the Slovak Jesuit Province.
